Enhanced Login Security FAQ

1. Why Enhanced Login Security?

NVE Bank is committed to ensuring that all our online banking customers enjoy the freedom and ease of accessing their accounts online without fear of identity theft and online fraud. As customers go to our website, with Enhanced Login Security they can be further assured that it is safe and secure and no unauthorized access will be granted.

Enhanced Login Security helps protect our customers and conforms to the FFIEC (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council) guidance on “Authentication in an Internet Banking Environment”.

2. What is Enhanced Login Security?

Enhanced Login Security adds a second factor of user authentication. This is referred to as Multifactor Authentication. The customer number is known, the password is considered the first factor of authentication, and the computer being used to access online banking constitutes the second factor of authentication.

Identifying the computer being used for Online Banking access is what Enhanced Login Security is responsible for. It facilitates Multifactor Authentication and ensures that the user requesting access is indeed authorized.

3. How does it work – adding/removing the Security feature?

Basically Enhanced Login Security is a cookie based authentication feature that identifies a computer by a Device Identification (Device Id) placed within a Cookie and stored in the Computer/Browser. The Device Id is a cryptographically secure piece of data which is stored in the form of a non intrusive browser Cookie. It is encrypted and no externally identifiable end user information is stored in it.

q You add extra security protection by enrolling in the Enhanced Login Security feature via the Prompt or by going to User Options.

q Once enrolled your accounts are always protected online by this additional security feature.  No one will be allowed access to your accounts online unless we can identify them through the Customer Number, Password and Computer.

q Once additional security is added to the computer, the Cookie is placed in the browser and from then on it matches your regular login credentials (customer number and password) to the computer you initially used to enroll into Enhanced Login Security or added the extra security to.

q If the computer cannot be identified you will be prompted with the 2 Challenge Questions you setup for Password Validation and Enhanced Login Security. Once the questions have been answered correctly you will be granted access to Online Banking site. You can now add the security to this computer, if you will use it often to access online banking. This way you will not need to answer the 2 Challenge Questions every time you try to log in.

q You can remove the added security (un-enroll) from a computer anytime by going to “User Options”, once logged in successfully to Online Banking.

q You cannot un-enroll from Enhanced Login Security all together once enrolled by going to “User Options”. You will have to call Online Banking support at 1-866-NVE Bank. However, NVE Bank recommends that you do not un-enroll from this all important and vital security feature.

4. What if I delete my Cookies?

If you delete the Cookies from your Browser for whatever reason, you are not automatically un-enrolled from Enhanced Login Security. Only the cookie on that computer is removed. The next time you log in to Online Banking you will be prompted with the 2 Challenge Questions. Once the answers are correct you will be granted temporary access to Online Banking. Now, you can add the cookie once again to the computer by going to “User Options” – Enhanced Login Security. It is recommended that this be done if it is not a publicly accessed computer and you will be using it often for Online Banking.

You will not be granted access to Online Banking unless you answer the questions correctly. If you forget the answers to the questions you will have to call Online Banking support at 1-866-NVE Bank.

5. What are Challenge Questions?

Challenge Questions replaced the “Forgotten Password Validation Questions” initially available for Online Banking password reset. All Online Banking customers were required to setup 2 Challenge Questions as of September 27, 2006.

The Challenge Questions are used to identify customers for both the Enhanced Login Security feature and Password reset via the Login Page.

There are 2 question sets that customers were given the opportunity to choose 1 question from each set and provide an answer.

If you have logged in successfully to Online Banking and wish to reset your Challenge Questions, you can do so by going to “User Options.”

6. Is Enhanced Login Security Optional?

Your online security has always been a top priority for NVE Bank. On September 27, 2006, your online banking experience was upgraded with a new optional security service to further help protect you from identity theft and online fraud. From August 1, 2007 to ensure all our customers are taking advantage of this very important Online Banking security feature, enrollment in “Enhanced Login Security” has now been made mandatory. This is to fully ensure that unauthorized access via Online Banking to our customers’ information and accounts is not allowed.
